SFT is part of a growing movement for Tibetan independence, so training future leaders is a big part of what we do.
SFT runs Action Camps across the world, and national networks run their own regional training camps and conferences. We also help build up individuals to be leaders of the movement, with the emphasis being on young Tibetans who can become strong spokespeople for the movement as a whole. This approach ensures that we have committed, trained and empowered people at the forefront of our movement, and the sharing of skills and ideas between our leaders and our networks is vital to strengthen the movement for a free Tibet.

Activists are trained on non-violent direct action strategy, practical activism, campaigning, grassroots networking, fundraising, traditional and online media work. And we also work alongside other non-violent movements with which we share common opponents to further the cause. The Chinese government has a lot of advantages; money, manpower and fear. What we have over them is unity, passion and the knowledge that our cause is just and that seemingly insignificant non-violent movements have toppled powerful regimes in the past, including the recent past as the Arab Spring of 2011 has shown.
The other big advantage we have over the Chinese government is freedom; we can do for Tibetans resisting inside Tibet what Burmese democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has asked people to do for Burma; “use your freedom to promote ours.” The more people we can train up to do that, the stronger this movement becomes.
SFT has national networks in 10 countries, over 165 regional groups and growing. SFT has national networks in 10 countries around the world.
