FAO: HE Dr. Suresh C. Chalise – stop the suppression of Tibetan Democracy
Your Excellency,
I am shocked to learn that Nepalese have police entered polling stations where Tibetans are voting for their new Prime Minister and Parliament in exile, and have seized ballot boxes and ballot forms. This is a clear impingement of the human rights and democratic freedoms on Nepal’s Tibetan community and is an issue that must be addressed as a matter of urgency.
I call on the Nepalese government to immediately return the ballot boxes and forms to the Tibetan community and cease interference in the election. You once stated that “the UK and Nepal respectively adhere and aspire for universal values such as democracy, respect for human rights and rule of law” – I urge you to now ensure that your government lives up to this statement.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
[your name]
