Former Karma monastery monk Tenzin Phuntsok is the 12th Tibetan to set himself on fire in protest since March, and has reportedly survived.

Activists abseiled down the Cannes Ville Station while world leaders were arriving for the G20 conference in the morning of 2nd November. Their banner read ‘Enough! Global Intervention Now to Save Tibetan Lives’ in French.

On 3rd November, a nun named Palden Choesang became the 11th Tibetan to set themselves on fire since March to draw attention to the worsening situation in their country, and the 5th to have died. When he set himself alight, young monk Norbu Damdul called for ‘complete independence for Tibet’. Read more>>

The situation in Tibet has reached crisis point. On 25th October, Dawa Tsering of Kardze became the 10th Tibetan to set themselves on fire since March in a desperate cry for help to end China’s repression. 19-year-old Norbu, who self-immolated on 15th October, called for ‘complete independence for Tibet’.

The two Tibetan teenagers who self-immolated in protest against the Chinese regime on 7th October have died in hospital. Choephel and Khaying, 18 and 19, are ex Kirti monks. Authorities say they will arrest any who express condolances.

Five Tibetan teenagers self-immolated in the space of one week, after Lobsang Kalsang and Lobsang Konchok did so on 1st October and Kesang Wangchuk on 3rd October. Two other monks died after self-immolating earlier this year. Read more>>
