MEET OUR STAFF
Students for a Free Tibet UK (SFT UK) runs almost entirely on full-time voluntary basis. We currently have 2 paid part-time staffs. The board members work tirelessly to make life difficult for the Chinese government, so that China understands that the occupation of Tibet must end. The job of the staff is to support the efforts of SFT members in the UK, by providing leadership on campaigns and organizational strategy, and by coordinating training opportunities like our Annual SFT UK Conference.
TENZIN JIGDAL, National Director
Jigdal was born in exile in India. He graduated from the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) and pursued his bachelors in Computer Science form the Madras University. After his completion of bachelors, he won a scholarship to continue with his Masters degree at the London Metropolitan University. Whilst, pursuing his studies, he joined SFT UK in 2008. Since then he has been an active member. He was a part of the 2008 Olympic Campaign SFT UK action team.
PEMA YOKO, Deputy Director
Pema Yoko was born and brought up in London, she is a very recoginisable face in the UK and has been very active within the Tibetan community and was also a member of the Tibetan Youth UK. After graduation in 2007, she immediatly joined SFTUK as National Co-ordinator and played a heavy role in the UK’s Olympic co-ordination for the Beijing games. Since joining SFTUK, she has been a key spokesperson and has organised and taken part in many actions in and around the world. Her current position is Internal co-ordinator.
OUR BOARD MEMBERS
The Board Members are responsible for the overall strategic direction of SFT UK and for the financial health of the organization. In order to ensure that students and the most active SFT volunteers determine the direction of the organization, a majority of SFT UK Board Members are nominated by active student chapters, individual student members and long-term volunteers. Excluding the paid staffs, we currently have 5 board members:
ALEX - She is currently our Grassroots Coordinator and oversees our SFT UK groups across the UK.
WONG SUM LUNG- He currently coordinates our chinese outreach programme in various universities in the UK.
PADMA DOLMA – She is currently our Campaigns Coordinator and works along with the Tibet Support Groups in organizing effective campaigns.
LUKE- He is currenlty the coordinator of our Environment Campaign researching particularly on Tibet’s water and the effect of unjust mining in Tibet.
LIAM- He coordinates our lobbying Campaigns in the UK and ensures our supporters are familiar with the proccesses involved while lobbying their political respresentatives
