Students for a Free Tibet UK is a volunteer-run campaigning group which campaigns for Tibetan freedom and independence.
We work on:
-Grassroots training for students, young Tibetans and supporters
-Campaigning for the release of political prisoners
-Organising events to celebrate resistance against Chinese rule in Tibet
-Networking with other groups affected by Chinese state policy
-Raising awareness of the situation in Tibet
Students for a Free Tibet UK (SFT UK) was established by British and Tibetan students in Spring 2003, and is part of the international movement of Students for a Free Tibet, a grassroots network of 650 groups in over 35 countries.

Since it’s inception, SFT UK has been working to help the Tibetan people regain their freedom. SFT UK is a network of young people in the UK campaigning for a free and independent Tibet. We understand the important role students and youth have played in social justice movement throughout history and are committed to making the same happen for Tibet.

SFT also works with young Tibetans to train them on taking non-violent action for Tibet, raises awareness of the Tibetan cause in the media and uses new media to share information about what’s happening in Tibet and demand political action.
So you can join SFT UK either as a grassroots group or as a member. Students will always represent the backbone of our organisation, but you don’t have to be a student to be a member or to take part in any of our events. Contact us for more about starting a group, or helping out.

We’re reaching out to new communities, and like the younger generation of Tibetans in Tibet, we’re increasingly using the arts to get our demand for Tibetan freedom across. So if you’re part of an artistic community, a musician, a writer or have other skills and would like to volunteer these skills for the cause, please do contact us!
